It was fascinating to see how well the rain was portrayed and how it was utilized to convey the feeling and atmosphere of the whole work. This was the 49th station of the Tokaido road, and we can clearly see from the travelers’ body language that they’re tired after a long journey: they walk with their heads lowered, their spears rested on their shoulders and trying to seek refuge from the rain. To the bottom-right side of the work we can see the strong currents of the river, slightly overflown because of the rain, and how they adds the brightest touch of color to the whole composition. When looking at this work from up close, one cannot help but admire the skill of the engraver, who made such a realistic portrayal of the trees and the buildings behind the rain. This work offers an open window into the reality of its protagonists, transporting us into this rainy day to the point where we can almost smell the rain and hear the river running down.

Il était fascinant de voir à quel point la pluie était bien représentée et comment elle était utilisée pour transmettre le sentiment et l'atmosphère de l'ensemble de l'œuvre. Voici la 49ème station de la route de Tokaido. Nous pouvons clairement distinguer, si l'on s'en réfère au langage corporel des voyageurs, qu'ils sont fatigués après un long voyage. Ils marchent tête baissée, leurs lances posées sur leurs épaules et tentant de se mettre à l'abri de la pluie. En bas à droite, nous remarquons les courants puissants de la rivière, légèrement soulevés à cause de la pluie, et pouvons constater qu'ils apportent une couleur plus lumineuse à l'ensemble de la composition. En regardant cette œuvre de près, on ne peut s'empêcher d'admirer l'habileté du graveur, qui a fait une représentation si réaliste des arbres et des bâtiments, dissimulés derrière un rideau de pluie. Cette œuvre offre une fenêtre ouverte sur la réalité de ses protagonistes, nous transportant dans ce jour de pluie au point où nous pouvons presque sentir la pluie et entendre la rivière couler.

Era fascinante ver lo bien que se representa la lluvia y como se utilizaba para expresar la sensación y atmósfera de toda la obra. Esta era la parada 49 de la carretera Tokaido y podemos ver claramente gracias al lenguaje corporal del viajante que están cansados tras una larga jornada: caminan con la cabeza gacha, sus lanzas descansan sobre sus hombros e intentan refugiarse de la lluvia. En la parte inferior derecha de la obra vemos las fuertes corrientes del río, ligeramente desbordado por la lluvia, añadiendo el toque de color más brillante a toda la composición. Cuando miramos a esta obra de cerca, uno no puede evitar admirar la destreza del grabador, que llevó a cabo una representación tan realista de los árboles y edificios detrás de la lluvia. Este trabajo ofrece una ventana abierta a la realidad de sus protagonistas, que nos transporta a este día lluvioso hasta el punto en el que casi podemos oler la lluvia y escuchar como el río fluye hacia abajo.
